One thing that has definitely caught my attention, even as an individual, is the decision to use a Google-managed proxy, *by default*, for fetching dependencies. It makes me wonder what other privacy-compromising decisions will be made in the future

Honestly, I'm currently not sure what you mean and I find no documentation on that issue or on a decision. I'm not part of infra, but reasonably sure most of cargo runs through CloudFront CDN and GitHub. Could you either point me to an issue or raise it somewhere?
