Avenatti was taken into federal custody around 6pm PST during a break in testimony in a disciplinary case in which he was testifying to accusations he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from a client.

A source w/ the U.S. attorney's office in Los Angeles says that Avenatti was arrested for allegedly violating the terms of his pre-trial release on a case in which he is accused of extortion, theft of millions of dollars from clients, cheating on taxes and lying to investigators.

BREAKING: United States District Court Judge James V. Selna orders that Michael Avenatti remain in federal custody for possible violation of his conditions of pretrial release and be transported “forthwith” to NY where he will stand trial next week.
