Yep. We'uns got fiber optic cable run to our cabin high in the NW N.C. mountains with the 2008 stimulus package. Went from dial-up to fiber optic overnight...Saved my home business $500 per month.

Politicians in Tennessee (Blackburn, Lee, et al) make policy by thinking "What would be the right thing to do here?" Then always doing the exact opposite of whatever that idea is... The further East you get in the state, the bigger the shitshow on local levels.

There is a project going on right now in rural West Tennessee running fiber to places that only had satellite before.

TVA runs fiber along its transmission lines for its own data. Probably wouldn’t be hard to string some more if people wanted it to.
