Hey people that follow youtubers - YouTube has been changing a lot these past weeks. It's been impacting almost everyone you watch big and small. If you like them and watch - please actually like, comment, subscribe, and hit the bell. Its dumb I know but it helps. Thank you!

The only of those don't do is hit the bell, because I can't have dozens of notifications popping on my phone all the time.

I have the bell on, but have forced push notifications off for the app in my phone settings, so I rely on email notifs.

I guess that's one solution. I just don't want YouTube cluttering up my inbox any more than I want dozens of push notifications from the app.

I actually like the inbox clutter because it motivates me to watch videos, and if I realize I just am letting a certain channel's email notifications pile up in my inbox, I unsub to it. It's a natural content purifier.

That makes sense, actually. I actually watch mostly from the recommended page on my Roku, which surfaces a combination of my subscriptions and content that's algorithmically similar to my subscriptions. I feel like I get a good mix of familiar and discovery.

Doesn't that leave the possibility of missing out on a subscription's content though, if your Roku decides to not display it?

Yes it does, but I'm also subscribed to enough channels that I'm virtually guaranteed to miss out on content from several of them every day. For my usage, subscriptions are more useful as an input for the algorithm to use to surface similar content.

I see. You use subs as suggestions for your device's algorithm, as opposed to actually wanting to view every video from every sub. That's interesting, I haven't heard of that. Well, if it works, it works.

It's actually YouTube's algorithm, but otherwise you're spot on. Technically, everyone's subs are suggestions for the algorithm. But it's only meaningful to you if you watch recommended videos or regularly use autoplay.

Yeah I do wish @TeamYouTube would be open about what exactly goes into their algorithm. (I misspoke, thanks)
That's definitely an interesting way to watch things. I have fairly specific interests, so I never use autoplay or let myself go on suggested tangents.

I didn't do that for a long time, but then YouTube turned into my main source of video entertainment and discovery became much more appealing.
