Apparently I sang "Hooked on a feeling" so good in the intro to my Ape Out video that it got copyright claimed. Where's my Grammy?pic.twitter.com/VMy8kD3lFy
Yo what's up my name is Jasmine. If you don't think I am cool you better re-examine. I like good vibes as you can see. I also love hugs & warm cups of green tea

Because there’s a set of copyrights to protect the writers of songs for the lyrics/melody that they've created, you can receive a claim if you sing a song a cappella (regardless of the quality of your vocals--although, tbh, we were impressed). More info: http://goo.gl/ESkbsb
So question, does this mean YT cover artists are not gonna exist anymore? How are they gonna monetize their videos without getting claimed and having their entire revenue taken from them? Just genuinely curious cause I don’t know, especially now with the passing of Article 13.
Covers are often claimed because it's not fair use to make covers. You can get permission, stick to songs that don't get claimed, or buy a mechanical license for permission to 'sell' your cover on digital platforms.
That seems to be the unfortunate case when it comes to the music industry. Seems like these copyright laws getting stricter and stricter will eventually destroy an entire genre of videos if not handled properly.
