Rights are only as real as the opportunities we have to exercise them. Thats why the state must ensure ALL eligible voters can access #AVR and #EarlyVoting. #LetNYVote!
“Mayes won the AG’s race in November against election denier by just 280 votes, a race that went to a state-mandated recount.
“Under my predecessor’s administration, the election integrity unit searched widely for voter fraud and found scant evidence of it occurring in Arizona,”
If Americans needed another reason not to sleep on our #VotingRights in 2023, it’s that there are lawmakers in many states pushing new laws now—without justification—that would unfairly restrict voter access in 2024.
Good for New Jersey! Providing free postage for mail-in ballots is one of my four pillars to protect voting rights with vote by mail.

Why are my children only interested in playing in literally any other room in the house than their PLAYROOM, a room we set aside specifically for... you know... play.
.@markealczyk, maybe you missed this highly embarrassing situation for the Capitol region and it’s victimized voters, but it would be dishonest, shitty policymaking to disregard it:
#NYSenate Bill S644, sponsored by @senjohnmannion, passed (41-21, unofficial). Relates to establishing minimum staffing levels for local board of elections:
https://nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2023/s644…
The charges were public ahead of the 2022 General Election.
That didn’t prevent 1) the impugned Commissioner from continuing to run the Board including handling ballots; and 2) the county GOP and legislature reappointing the impugned commissioner to his post for 2023-24.
Let’s clarify that no 2020-era changes to the election law actually made it easier for “corrupt insider” crimes to occur.
Commissioners have discretion over Board policy for handling ballots.

Ideally, the Supreme Court would step in and put a stop to the escalating attempts to undermine democracy and roll back civil rights. But the conservative majority on the Court is doing the opposite, acting instead as the spearhead of the reactionary counter-mobilization.
It’s really hard to keep track of everything that’s happening, on so many levels, in so many states, so many communities, all at the same time.
But it’s all one big story: A multi-level reactionary counter-mobilization against egalitarian multiracial, pluralistic democracy.
several bills in the package passed on a bipartisan basis.
I imagine you had more to say than what was included here, but I disagree.
If enacted in full, it will improve training, uniformity, pay, professionalism, conflicts, data and more.
Hi. It's me, kindly requesting that NY government agencies stop pulling this move.
Just provide an email address for FOIL appeals! It's easier for everyone! Requesting a written appeal does nothing but deter appeals ... which is the point, I'm sure.
, There were never 10 Early Voting locations in the town of Brookhaven.
But initially, Suffolk County attempted to deploy ONE early voting site for all of Brookhaven.
It was absurd, and as a result, the law needed to be changed to increase access in Suffolk.
🔥“We hope the lesson of this embarrassing episode is not lost on Rensselaer County's broader population of elected officials and political operatives, who are currently under the lens of overlapping state and federal investigations into ballot…schemes”
Hakeem Jeffries delivers what’s likely the best political speech not given by Obama in generations. Progress asserted itself tonight, manifested in Jeffries, even amidst a hostile takeover of the House by neo–fascists
Last year we passed the strongest voting rights law of any state in the US.
Honored that @AndreaSCousins has once again named me Chair of the Senate Elections Committee to continue New York's journey from #WorstToFirst!
I'll also be repping SD20 on the Housing, Judiciary, Crime Victims, Codes, Consumer Protection and- new this year- Health committees! These important committees are well-matched to our district's needs and my legislative priorities.
Buckle up. It's going to be a big year!
The trial of Sikhala, a senior member of the Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change, was expected to kick off today and the state is strongly opposed to livestreaming the court case. @advocatemahere says they are supporting Sikhala's call to livestream is trial.
Every state legislature controlled by Democrats should enact at least one comprehensive set of pro-voting laws in 2023. Then, they should do it again in 2024.

: “Santos’s lies are an assault on democratic norms. The Republicans should have vetted Santos. The Democrats should have checked him out more thoroughly. The media should have as well.”
needs to call on Santos to resign the office he won only through deceit. It’s not enough to disinvite him to future events.
What he did to New York’s Jewish community (and the rest of CD3 residents) is patronizing, offensive, and disgusting.
This was a close contest. Every vote matters! 🗳️⚖️
“Over 123000 ballots were cast in the 2022 general election in the 50th State Senate District, and the margin separating the candidates after all ballots were canvassed by optical scanners was only 5l votes -less than 0.05%
The order for the #SD50 race is in. The net result is @SenJohnMannion will win his re-election by 10 votes.

I want my child to grow up in a world that values human beings w/ compassion, dignity, & respect no matter who you are, where you’re from, when you came here, who you love, what God you pray to, or what the color of your skin is. #StopAsianHate#StopTheHate#philoxenia
Earlier versions of the Wrong Church fix bill made it effective for 2022, but certain powerful, unelected Albany officials deliberately delayed implementation until 2023
There was no justifiable basis (or pretext) offered for doing so.
Here’s the impact:
Finding fewer excuses to throw out legit ballots is one more step on New York's journey from #WorstToFirst.
Because whatever church you do (or don't) attend, our democracy is stronger when more voices are singing in the choir.
.@govkathyhochul just signed my voter protection bill (A.642 - aka “wrong church”) that ensures eligible voters ballots are counted if they vote in their home county and assembly district.
It's very tempting to try and ignore the latest foolishness from Kanye West. He's clearly not well, he's looking for relevance, and he hasn't put out a good album since [redacted]. But we can't ignore it. /
