The charges were public ahead of the 2022 General Election.
That didn’t prevent 1) the impugned Commissioner from continuing to run the Board including handling ballots; and 2) the county GOP and legislature reappointing the impugned commissioner to his post for 2023-24.

Let’s clarify that no 2020-era changes to the election law actually made it easier for “corrupt insider” crimes to occur.
Commissioners have discretion over Board policy for handling ballots.

Sen. , There were never 10 Early Voting locations in the town of Brookhaven.
But initially, Suffolk County attempted to deploy ONE early voting site for all of Brookhaven.
It was absurd, and as a result, the law needed to be changed to increase access in Suffolk.

There was no justifiable basis (or pretext) offered for doing so.
