Thomas, Gordon, James, Percy, Emily, Sir Topham Hatt (The Fat Controller) are being sent to travel around the world to promote forced diversity, appeal to markets that don't care much, other things Thomas & Friends never needed to touch & @Mattel's gonna drive T&F into the ground

Mattel bought HiT Entertainment -the company which had owned Thomas & Friends (The Show, not the original books) since 2002- back in 2013; things were going well until the announcement of the movie "The Great Race" (a musical) and it all started going downhill after that. :/

Between 2013 & 2017, the series DID have a return to form with a new head writer in Andrew Brenner (who wrote Thomas magazines stories, some were turned into episodes in Seasons 3 & 5) who also cared for the series same as older fans; sadly, it all seems to have be done away with

Far from it; many of the best characters joined the cast after Season One. Further, writers can only do so much with a small cast, doubly so if they're one-note or in the hands of a sub-par writer. TTTE has generally been blessed with a LARGE, well-rounded & long-developed cast.

For some great examples of new characters over the ages: -peppery Scottish Twins Donald & Douglas, Season 2 -dynamic duo Oliver & Toad, S3 -warm yarn-spinner Salty & snooty-but-reliable truck Elizabeth, S6 -chill gentle giant Murdoch, S7 -the Skarloey engines, S4 the list goes on
