Hi, I'm JapaneseGaryBen I have been learning Japanese through immersion for near two years, and would like to enourage others to do so while sharing my thoughts on common misconceptions of not just immersion but also language learning in general Please look forward to it

There is no shortcut to building up all those subconscious connotations and connections between words every native speaker had to learn through their lifetime. So get that immersion in.

People think they're going to consciously "understand" their way into learning a language. But language is something you feel. You're good at the language when you blurt it out when you're angry. When you randomly have a train of thought in it. When it can offend you.

More vocabulary does not make you better at listening. Listening Practice makes you better at listening. And you can be doing that 24/7 for free.

Natural production starts after the amount of immersion material you understand outweighs what you don't. You don't say what you want. You say what you know. Whether or not you're consciously aware you know it at all.

As far as output is concerned, the goal of understanding as much as possible isn't so you have more words to use. It's so that you can subconsciously absorb as much as possible, that will spill out of you later.

You can “practice speaking” your target lanfuage— or memorise and drill its “rules”— but this “learned linguistic behaviour” does not turn into acquisition of language. http://a.co/bN4VVoy pic.twitter.com/WnRfBo2xuo

If Kanji Recognition is not done separately from Vocabulary you are constantly held back from making decent progress with either of them. Heisig's English keywords is the simplest test for acquiring Kanji Recognition, and you can get it out of the way right from the start.

This is my Kanji notebook for Heisig revision I've written in it almost every day for over two years I bought 3 but haven't even filled one yet This far and only around 70 pages needed As a result, reading is not a barrier for me As it shouldn't be for anybodypic.twitter.com/qQ5FBvo1l2

STOP trying to understand the meaning of words out of context. There isn't a "Why" to language, only a "How". Not "Why does it mean that?", but "How is it used when it means that?"

I watch all the 意識高い系 channels The genre of channels that summarize the content of best-selling self-improvement books is probably the peakhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foJYbE_urQU& …

I remember when 感 looked like madness to me man. Just looking at it tired me out. Now not only can I see it everyday and not think a thing. I can also write it from memory just like I write the alphabet. Just do Heisig, guys.

It's not so much that you need to give everything your all. It's more that you need to get better at finding something you're willing to give your all to.

If you’re a regular viewer of my videos, the content of my newest video shouldn’t be very surprising. That said, I think the section on how to utilize native speaker feedback will be useful even for long time viewers.https://youtu.be/UbOjG4FNN5g

It all comes down to probably my most favourite Japanese saying "習うより慣れよ" (literally "More than learn, get used to") Probably best understood by people as "Experience is worth more than knowledge". But it really is more about getting used to, and accepting things you see

The hardest thing about learning a language isn't effort, it's time. Progress is guaranteed if you put the time in. Time is hard to secure. That and money. Money for resources. Actually on second thought just money is the problem.

This is the Anki add-on for this card type. You don't have to make it yourself. The readings auto-generate. So what are you waiting for?
