“My daughter is in school. I saved all my money just to pay student loans. Can I have my money back?”
@ewarren: “Of course not”
“So you’re going to pay for people who didn’t save any money and those of us who did the right thing get screwed?”pic.twitter.com/EXoU2ci2Wt

Asking questions means waiting to hear the answer. This man's anger got in the way of actual, real discourse. He probably would have heard something that would have changed his perspective, had he been willing to hear it.

Good question! May no child in the future benefit from a cure for leukemia because kids in the past, unfortunately, didn’t get to. This notion is moral & not selfish at all...

Nope, neither do I. But I can absolutely see how an entire generation not being ENTIRELY IN DEBT FOR LIFE. Is a good thing for me and those around me.

Now there is a polio vaccine, should polio victims be angry, say no one should get it, because they didn't get it before it was available? Same logic. "I suffered so everyone else should too!" Short sighted & selfish. It used to be we wanted to make things better for the future.

My mother had polio as a child, before the vaccine was developed. Should she have begrudged ppl getting the vaccine because she had to suffer through it? No, she was happy to see no one else had to. That's called "humanity".

Preventing disease is for the common good. Paying off student debt that was willingly taken on is not benefitting the common good. Not is it charitable because charity is by nature voluntary.

Must be nice to live in a situation whereas you were able to do so, and also meet the needs for rent, food, and medical needs.

What does this mean? I'm sick of the idea that people who save for their kids to go to college are lucky or rich. We sacrificed and saved. That's it. That's the secret. We did so with the cost of three adoptions and on one income.
