Does it have to be American? I have a handwritten cookbook that came to Canada with my Gran from England in the 1940s. There's at least one weird gelatin recipe in there... (Also a recipe for cough syrup that contains laudanum!)

haha oh wow! It doesn't need to be American, just American in spirit. This book sounds amazing (definitely include the laudanum recipe!)

Not exactly vintage. But self-published, not well edited, and with recipe titles so distracting, I cannot bear to cook anything out of this book, even if it were good. Also, the only index is alphabetical by recipe title.
