When writing about Sen. John McCain’s cancer status today, I urge my fellow writers and news presenters to use plain, accurate language. No “ battle with cancer,” military metaphors, the mythical bravery and heroism. Try something different.

I’ve lost two sisters , much too young. One from lung cancer, One from side effects of breast cancer/chemo. God Bless you for taking this burden of “fighting” off the shoulders of cancer patients

a person on Facebook yelled at me repeatedly that my two brothers who died from cancer didn’t use cannabis or they’d still be alive. when I pointed out they were cannabis users for decades she said we were stupid for not knowing about Rick Simpson oil.

My brother got all sorts of weird advice, including some crazy surgery in Hong Kong that would cure him. Even Maple Syrup Cures. We got so angry at the people suggesting them.

This is one of my pet peeves, hugely. My favorite is when I’m told I’m “giving cancer too much power” by TALKING ABOUT IT TOO MUCH. What?! Telling my brain cancer story? Talking about my end of life plan? Talking about palliative care? This stuff is important, not shameful!
