Hey I think you accidentally used the cropped photo that cut off the union officer. And added some random captionpic.twitter.com/FmybYqdDOq

In Microsoft’s Algerian font though. Just like they would have used on their PCs.

The erection of that statue and about 150 more was the work of Daughters of the Confederacy trying to change the narrative of the war to The Lost Cause

and also just not that great of a general

You don’t lose 20% of your army in every battle and expect to win wars. But you know he was likeable and Grant wasn’t.
-
Grant waz likeable, he just had 2 many haters.
-
-
He waz not a drunk, u barely drank. Its a rumor dat stemmed 4m an unfortunate incident while he waz student at WestPoint.
-
Having read his memiors he was clearly clueless about race issues. And he had an anti semantic streak during the war that once set straight he did try to make amends for while president. Also while president defended the 15th amendment more then any of his successors did.
-
Yup, dats da Grant i kno. Despite some of his worst infractions, he waz not da worst President. Dis generation is exclusively aware of dat.

"A 150-year-old propaganda campaign designed to erase slavery as the cause of the war and whitewash the Confederate cause as a noble one.” As someone who has lived in the south his entire life, I've heard the " States Rights" argument ad-nauseum.
-
It's usually always followed by how most southerners fighting in the war were too poor to own slaves. I mean, they just fought for that cause, it wasn't like they still didn't feel superior based on their skin color or anything. Blech

When my daughter was in high school in GA, she came home to tell me in history class they were learning about ‘The War of Northern Aggression.’ In 2009.

That’s better than Muslim beliefs

The Frederick Douglass's quote in this article -- "between the Christianity of this land and the Christianity of Christ I recognize the widest possible difference."--continues to ring true.

Losing a war is hard, even an immoral war. We have Viet Nam War memorials all over the place. Gotta give it to the Germans...no Nazi memorials.
-
Different situations there. Vietnam, the US fought and lost as a country. The south tried to split from an already existing country and lost. Not only that, they were fighting for very wrong reasons. There should be no memorials for that, and yet here we are.
-
Correction, there should be no memorials for the leaders, like Lee. The common soldiers should get a memorial saying “These poor souls lost their lives fighting a war they shouldn’t have been in.”
-
And those monuments exist here in DC. Prime example "The AfricanAmerican Civil War Veteran's Memorial"
