Read @HenryJGomez on Buttigieg’s “1,000 Houses in 1,000 Days” program. It bulldozed or repaired vacant and abandoned homes in black and Latino South Bend neighborhoods. The mayor celebrates this rather uncritically. It is much more complicated than that.https://bzfd.it/2X1fs0N

This rather comprehensive
@ChrisSikich look at Buttigieg’s urban renewal is also worth your attention. It’s difficult to spotlight just one thing, but take heed of what he did for a woman named Stacey Odom.http://dlvr.it/R1JHb4Show this thread

Is there even the slightest possibility that for once, Democrats, liberals, and progressives could take on the greatest challenge of a generation ... choosing a candidate to defeat Trump ... without forming a circular firing squad? Please?!
-
No... seems there is a serious divide in the party between moderates and progressives, POC and 'white working class' voters. I'm so frickin tired of it ~ ugh!
-
Collectively, we’ve got to get past that divide and select a candidate. Remember, the candidate doesn’t have to be perfect. Six rabid ferrets in a sack, wearing a trench coat, will be vastly better than Trump.
-
Translation: “I’m ok with imperfections in a candidate if those imperfections only negatively affect communities I’m not a part of or don’t care about. You have to sacrifice your concerns so I can have a candidate that will meet my needs.” Almost very early objection to these+
-
candidates has been over how they have historically treated the oppressed & marginalized in positions that will arguably be less complicated than the presidency. So yes, it matters. I have multiple targets on my back. I am black. I am queer. I am a woman. I have multiple health+
-
issues. I have family members who are immigrants. You’re asking me to ignore the people firing at me/mine & focus only eliminating the ones aiming at you.. for the sake of unity & to treat the ones firing at me as a distraction. But historically once this “unifying” candidate+
-
is picked & elected bcs I’ve sacrificed my needs for yours, you don’t want any further attention paid to the threats that don’t effect you. Then I’m being divisive. Still. So yes, if a candidate wants my support they may not have a perfect record but for damn sure they better+
-
figure out what they did wrong, have an answer for what they should have done instead & a concrete, well-researched strategy for how to do better as president. I’m tired of having to say this every election.pic.twitter.com/gvlB7xzHha

To learn more about the poverty situation of S Bend, home of Notre Dame, see a non profit study commissioned 5 1/2 years after Buttigieg took office. A dismal 40% African Am poverty & 42% child poverty rats has remained a dire reality for POC in S Bend. https://prosperitynow.org/sites/default/files/resources/Racial%20Wealth%20Divide%20in%20South%20Bend_ProsperityNow_Final_Rev.pdf …

At the same time (5 1/2 yrs after taking office), Buttigieg commissioned a study on homelessness. Here are some summary points of the conditions for the chronic, transient, or peripheral homeless in S Bend when Buttigieg was in office:pic.twitter.com/51vvRtpSON

Many chronically homeless at this time were living in tents under a bridge.

He got in office The FBI told him the Chief of Police was under investigation for illegally wiretapping He demoted him Chief resigned That’s Integrity it’s doing the right thing even if it’s perceived wrongly! See 7 years ago & still being spinned to hurt him! More impressed
-
The NYT article has details that pushes against this explanation. It doesn't seem that clear-cut & the article covers more ground than that anyway.

So, Pete heard the hint of an accusation against the first black police chief and he couldn't throw him away fast enough. When he discovered he may be wrong, he doubled down. Can we black folks quit letting the establishment tell us who to vote for?
-
You are absolutely wrong on this. The chief knew about the wiretapping. The chief did not disclose to the mayor that he was under FBI investigation. There is a lot to this story. I would implore you to look deeper.
-
1) The U.S attorney dropped any case against Boykins 2) The previous SB police chiefs recorded the lines with no issues 3)Buttigieg also fired the communications employee, that worked at the station for 25 years, for alerting Boykins to the officers saying racist things
-
4)Buttigieg decided to "deal" with the police chief rather than a possible racism issue in the police 5)Buttigieg appears to have no interest in releasinh the recording Buttigieg went into protect white cops mode. Discovering possible racism in your police department and not....
-
immediately think about protecting a community from police brutality is disqualifying. It follows the history of the Democratic party asking for the AA vote and dismissing our community when we need your help.
-
To release illegally made phone recordings is another crime. The city is waiting for the court to tell it what to do. Plus, the people illegally recorded may have rights too that can't be overlooked. Suggested reading:https://bit.ly/2Zi0uFM
-
Correct. The mayor office should of went thru every legal recourse to attempt to get the tape recordings released, conducted an investigation, and taken an informed action. Rather, he immediately fired two city employees who possibly exposed racism in the police department.
-
The city is letting the court decide but it takes time. The FBI did investigate and the county prosecutor also issused a report that did not clear the cheif of wrongdoing. Here's a second article that is helpful:https://bit.ly/2XhKbXo
