Isn't the elephant in the room belief in the narrative that poverty is a poor person's fault? Not accident of birth, geography or any other extraneous factors.

I'm not even remotely surprised by this finding, but it's an interesting literal example of why I dislike the term: it suggests the solution lies in treating white people worse, rather than seeing this "privilege" as the norm and treating everyone better.

It also reminds me of people on Twitter cheerleading "white privilege" when that American student was arrested in North Korea. I doubt many apologized for that when they learned how that story ended.

I can see why these conclusions are formed, as discussions around "white privilege" tend to be decontextualised and broad-brushed, hence hardly progressive. People often end up feeling either shame or outrage, both of which encourage irrational response.
