I haven’t seen any coverage of the impact of the on Maine’s Indian nations. As I understand it, the Bureau of Indian Affairs is shut down, and the Indian Heath Service is impacted, as well as education funds

YES! (Although we think closing Long Creek WOULD have a broad impact - the population is small, but showing that our state can stop putting kids behind bars would have ripple effects far beyond Maine.) Our View: Time to stop incarcerating Maine children

Gov. ’s executive order means: ✅ for 70,000 Mainers. ✅ 5,980 new jobs in Maine. ✅ $684 million in economic activity. ✅ The will of Maine’s voters, who approved expansion in 2017, finally fulfilled.

In case you doubted that the pardon process is up to the governor’s caprice. We can do better. Time for Maine to have a proper system to seal criminal records

This would be a great opportunity for a study - survey businesses that get the "first come first served" funds, and those which don't, See what the real marginal value of the credit is. Before we give away more taxpayer money without accountability

It would also be great to know when we can expect a new data warehouse to go online. The RFP went out in June but I haven't seen an update since

I hope and can get the website in shape quickly. It's full of dead links, empty pages, and missing data. Here's a fun example - the page purporting to contain the annual school funding reports is empty

This piece does a good job capturing the benefits and limitations of hospital price transparency. The list price for a service is unlikely to be what you'll pay out of pocket as a consumer. On the other hand, it sheds some sunlight on our overpriced health care system

Interesting gender pay gap study - women will trade pay for more flexibility. Of course, one implication is that policies that give ALL workers more flexibility will reduce women’s need to accept lower pay

A blanket of snow has covered the Navajo Nation, but roads are unplowed because federal maintenance has stopped. Many people are now trapped in their homes, unable to make the 20- or 50-mile journey to buy water, groceries and medicine.

(THREAD) It's been QUITE a year covering Maine politics & outgoing Gov. LePage. He's not a fan of the press but he'd begrudgingly chat if I waited outside his office all AM. He's followed through on his vow to work until the last moment.
