There's nothing wrong with you if you can't stand pair programming as a day-in-day-out approach to software development. I love the occasional pairing, but I'd rather quit programming than do it all day, every day.
I think it works best when both people are very good at what they do, absolutely respect each other, can debate without being offended, and can understand and accept other ideas. Productivity is on par or greater overall, but biggest reward is quality of product and less bugs.

Actually in my experience the most effective it is to pair a junior with a senior.

Absolutely if you want to impart knowledge and experience! But doing this all the time can be a recipe for burning out. It all depends on what you’re going for. Giving a junior good time and code reviews is often sufficient, but a mix is best.
