Don't build or buy a product to make something easier for you/your business unless it's easier and better for everyone involved (you + suppliers + users).

It’s said retirement is being able to do what you want, when you want. Therefore, I’m pleased to say that I’m retired. Don’t wait to be 65 to do what you love.

So once again we’re squaring off. But lo and behold he greets me and then apologises for his behaviour! Oh, and could he borrow 20p for cigarettes? I gave him 20p, he thanked me, said “we’re cool”, and that was the end of it. Never had any trouble after that. 4/4

Anyway, eventually he gets bored and calls it off. They all leave and my bro & I get to walk home unharmed save for a load of flaming insults. A few weeks later I see him again, this time in daylight and on his own. He clocks me, and I’m thinking “Oh yeah, what now...”. 3/4

I was kind of intimidated to be honest, but just thought “whatever” and told him repeatedly “Nah, I’m not fighting you” while walking around him. This went on for a few minutes (felt like an age) - walking around in circles and having him waving a stick, shouting at me. 2/4

Story I randomly remembered today: When I was 16 the tough kid of the town (same age or older?, but notorious) randomly started on me and my bro (14) while we were walking home at night through a park. He picked up a big stick and squared up to me in front of his crew... 1/4

Scaling back and losing good people (inc my brother). Not being paid so the team would be. Taking on work we didn’t want. Wasting 2yrs chasing sales/service partnership, being ignored & rejected. Being a founder is awesome, but being able to build stuff with your best bud (aka @simthort) is the cherry on top. So much cool stuff coming out in the next few months... Watch this space!

Our office keycard system went down over lunch and now every office in the country is affected because there’s no manual override. Having something centralised might be great for management but it’s a disaster if there’s no redundancy. Always design for failure!

I’m a sucker for writing emails like I would a letter - certainly as the start of a conversation. Putting time into an email is simply putting time into the recipient. And that’s extremely valuable.
