On October 23, 1983, a terrorist drove a truck filled with explosives into Marine HQ in Beirut, killing 241 Marines. That came 6 months after a terrorist attack on the US embassy killed 63. No Dems called on Reagan to resign, or said he should be impeached.

And "Biden created the conditions for the 12 Marines getting killed. Reagan couldn't have done anything about the Lebanon bombing" is total nonsense. Reagan ordered the Marines into Lebanon without a clear achievable mission, into the middle of a brutal sectarian civil war.

Reagan left the Marines there after the US embassy bombing made it clear terrorists would be going after US targets. And the Marines' security was utterly inadequate: sentries had unloaded rifles, and the physical obstacles had no chance of stopping a truck.

Even so, no Dem called on Reagan to resign, because that's not what people do in a healthy democracy when a president makes what you think was a bad decision or an error in judgment. You criticize the mistake. You don't pretend it's worth overriding the will of the voters.

True. In fact the opposite, the nation as a whole looked to him to lead.

Here's what's different besides social media: People still supported their President, even if they didn't vote for him. Our parents were the Greatest Generation and they taught us to respect our Country's rules and laws. It was Country over Party all the time. 🇺🇸

More importantly we never had a former President who refused to concede, who sends out statements and holds “rallies” in an effort to undermine the current administration at every turn and continues to sow division in our country

Not to mention George W. and 9/11 - he brushed off warnings of an attack, politicized our response and was performatively tough ("bring it on"). Wouldn't sit for the 9/11 Commission without Cheney by his side. But he got a second term out of it.
