Some folks underestimate just how much characterization the actors put into these iconic heroes. Yeah, a lot of it is on the page or in the comics, but by allowing Downey to put more of himself into the character made it so much more real. And not everyone would think to do that

Yep! While there's a few more actors who would play him well, Robert Downey Jr was perfect for it. He was in a period of reinvention and revival himself, perfect timing for playing Tony Stark, a man who did the same and found a new calling. And he nailed it all the way to Endgame
