In part because US foreign policy is not purely altruistic. Nor should it be. But the interest in Venezuela is not only, or even predominately economic. It is more about depreciating hostile powers in the strategically important Caribbean sea.

I did notice CNN is putting on well known regime supporters like Asa Cusack to "explain" Venezuela to its audience. I imagine Damore May be sourcing what he knows from that type of fake media.
