Depending on geography
Have the bounds of acceptable speech shrunk or just shifted? I think bounds have mostly shifted for private conversations while online mobs shrink what can be said in public.

Shrunk. I can't even be sure of who should get to know what about me in private anymore. Only highly trusted people get the truth. In public, I am silent. Older folks tell me this is what the GDR was like.

The size of the window depends on the person speaking. If you're a white male it has shrunk and shifted....if you're a minority and female then there is no window. You can say whatever you want without scrutiny.

I suppose to depends on what you mean by "acceptable". 20 years ago people would have thought it very strange to say there are more than 2 genders, or that gender is a social construct, but there wouldn't be any major consequences for saying those things in public.

Shrunk & shifted. Far more PC and at risk from Social Justice mob for micro-aggressive 'wrong thought'. Misandry, Anti-Semitism, & anti-white rhetoric much more mainstream from 'progressives'.
