Big Tech funding coding camps has more to do with PR and creating a future supply of cheap labor than it does with altruism.https://jacobinmag.com/2019/01/stem-coding-bootcamp-education-scam-philanthropy …

Coding education can help its recipients. My point is that most of the media blindly praises these companies and parrots tech's claims/lobbying that we need more coders when it's really that the companies want to decrease coders' bargaining power.

Corporations do not care about their workers. They will only do this as long as their interests are served.

Basic economics. Currently a coders market, if supply overtakes demand, the shitfaced will have more leverage and average salary will decrease.

If it didn't have those benefits, it would be fiscally irresponsible of the corporations to fund such programs. The question is whether that's in the public interest, which I don't think the article does a good job answering.

Of course, it also has to do with creating ideological conformity in future coders so you don't get pesky folks disrupting the narrative.

Will a surge of new tech workers rebalance the economy by making fields like Law, Journalism and Management Consultancy rare in demand commodities again?

I can see this. The push for STEM the last number of years is interesting.
