has a chapter on this topic in his recent book called "Vexed." It's relevant reading now that Canada is expanding MAID and I highly recommend this concise, 200-page book for anyone with even a passing interest in ethics. The conclusions strike me as 'blue labour.'

A lot academics doing 'impact case studies' for the REF at the moment and it occurs to me that there's no specification that the impact actually be positive and thus the ideal academic impact would be starting a small war.

I am praying for the United States of America, shaken by the recent attack on Congress. I pray for those who lost their life. Violence is always self-destructive. I urge everyone to promote a culture of encounter and of care to construct the common good.

A reminder of Luther's advice in a time of Plague: “Use medicine, shun persons and places whatever your neighbour does not need your presence, and act like a man who wants to help put out the burning city. For what else is the epidemic but a fire which devours life and body?”

Chaos is always a sign of the demonic! What has been unleashed at the highest levels of our government, through continual lies and incitement, is demonic! Pray for peace not only in DC but across our country!

Yesterday I felt shock. Today I feel nothing but outrage: outrage that my house and the house of all Americans was invaded; outrage that traitors call themselves patriots; outrage that Christian Senators objected to certifying a democratically elected President. I am outraged!

Yet the world needs real feminine power. Nothing can really change till we see that the struggle to protect life is at one with struggle to save nature and achieve universal just human flourishing. We have to transcend the narcissism of both left and right.

Paradox for those who insist upon the “right“ to psychological happiness: the more they insist upon this, the more miserable they become.

“The only morally defensible choice, however, is the choice of mercy, charity, and forgiveness over the world's principalities and powers, the choice of truth against ideology. To make that choice today means to reject Left and Right alike.” —Christopher Lasch

The basic criteria among spiritual friends is that they share in common the general direction of their “loves.” True intimacy can only come if two people agree on a few basic things that are worthy of one’s attention and affection.
