      >@MEPFuller has said something like this already but I fully concur. The Freedom Caucus’s vote to admonish @justinamash is the conclusion of a long transformation from being a purity-based conservative caucus to a protectorate for the president.

That’s not a criticism. the Freedom Caucus that those guys — all men, by the way — founded is dead. They were fascinating to watch from the Boehner years until now. Especially in 16-18. But admonishing a member for saying what he thinks isn’t conservative. It’s quite the opposite

The transformation truly started in 2017 when the freedom caucus leadership abandoned spending restraint for the president. But now they’re caught up in the Republican Party. Not conservatism. If I told them in 2015 what they’d become in 2019, they wouldn’t believe me.

The Freedom Caucus literally couldn’t have strayed farther from their mission in admonishing @justinamash. “Freedom” is in the groups name. Freedom — unless you criticize trump. Then your freedom is curtailed.

They never cared about borrowing restraint. They only cared about opposing Democrats. Come on, man.

But the rest of us would have. They were always more anti Democrat (and especially anti black president) than principled conservative. The Freedom Caucus was always a bunch of racist, sexist white men to those of us looking from outside the bubble.

Jake, Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan are nothing but nutjob conspiracy theorists who say outrageous things in hopes of getting a “fantastic guy” from Trump. It’ll be interesting to see if they get re-elected now that they’re gerrymandered GOP-safe districts will be redrawn.

They would still be a group of ridiculous white men who will not accept diversity! That was their mission statement from the start, but the media gave them cover!

I would. It happened during Clinton, went away during Bush, returned in Obama and left again for Trump. Same cycle. It’s a reaction to D Presidents not an ideology. There never has been an ideology only a window dressing. I bet you $500 it will come back for the next D President.
