I can relate. Told my grandma in Mexico that I study politics. Next time I went to visit, people were under the impression I was the MAYOR of my hometown in California. 😂

  2. Like this is literally the exact same "rhetoric of reform" that I talk about in my article! The DNC's self-appointed role of handling corrupt / irresponsible state parties is historically rooted in the party reform effort of the late 60s, early 70s. No surprise here.

  3. Research comes to life!!😮DNC Chair calls for recanvass of the Iowa caucuses. Many mistakenly assumed that the DNC runs the caucuses when it is actually the state party. However, the DNC's authority comes into play when delegate selection procedures don't comply with party rules.

"They [future Americans] will note merely that I was among the senators who determined that what the President did was wrong, grievously wrong. We are all footnotes at best in the annals of history...” Yes, but you must understand that the footnotes are where historians THRIVE.

I’m testifying before a House committee this morning on the possibility of an Asian Pacific American Smithsonian. Wish me luck conveying a field worth of arguments in under 5 mins. Maybe a tiny corner of Congress will do something good today.

Quick morning read! Story on the life of Homer Plessy, plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson that established the legal doctrine of “separate but equal.” Part of a cool series on people that did not get obits in the NYT.

One last thing. Publishing this article makes me incredibly proud of being first-gen/low-income. But I think more than anything, this moment proves to me that I can make it in political history as a Latino. I rarely see people like me in this field and I hope I can change that.✊🏽

Now 50 years after the DNC's pivotal electoral reform, my article rethinks McGovern-Fraser's significance to history and poli-sci. I reframe the reforms through an *institutional* lens to show that shifting political authority from state parties to the DNC was their main purpose.
