What I want to know is: what is the best thing to call an incarcerated person (when you are not using a specific name)? When I ask my incarcerated clients this, they respond with bemusement. They say that, "Prisoners," "Inmates," or "The guys," are all fine ways of saying it.
If you are drafting a document that concerns a person confined, I would use prisoner. To a political aware person in confinement using the word inmate, con, etc, is an insult. On the other hand, an inmate would not care what you used #BurnThePrisons
