I use "prisoner" often and dont like inmate; I also use caged, incarcerated people.....

I agree, I look at it like Prisoner implies the power of government exerted against someone to cage them, it acknowledges where a person is AND who is keeping them there. Inmate focuses on where they are, it’s historically included people in hospitals. It’s simply not as correct.
