@JohnFPfaff but he has a pretty sophisticated response to this argument, I don't 100% agree with him, but I 85% agree with him. But that agreement doesn't mean much, b/c the 94 crime bill was bad for a lot of other reasons either way -
It's followed. The problem is that when it comes to certain political angles in relation to New Afrikan communities and what we see in the prisons, these arguments are too eurocentric. They preserve by ignoring crucial points that stand out to us

his argument is that other legislation was much more to blame for mass incarceration and all the other problems (including racial disparity), still an awful piece of legislation either way

Of course all other previous legislations matter. Each increased. Each wanted to be tougher. I personally get that. But to minimize the crime bill is another travesty to truth to power
