I'm curious because
@JoshuaBHoe has been a big advocate of it. What do you think are the most positive aspects of the bill Josh?5 replies 0 retweets 1 like -
Do I wish it did many more things & have I been fighting for changes, YES But, I know it will bring 4k home immediately, give another 28k a faster path to return w/i 10 years, makes crack v cocaine retroactive, stops shackling 4 pregnant women, compassionate release etc.

Those are important things.

Trust me, after this passes (if it does). The very next day, I will be publishing a list of things that need to be included in the second step act. And I will be pushing for those every day until a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th step act deal with them

They are claiming it's only the FIRST STEP. I hope you all hold them to it. The "1st step" was the buy in language.
@JoshuaBHoe I do agree, it's not going to make it any worse for the actual federal prisoner inside1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -
Exactly, I am doing my best to hold them to it...and like I said, I am keeping my powder dry on the things I am grumpy about until it passes, I plan to be pushing very hard for a 2nd Step Act :)

My concern is the emphasis on “this is *not* for ppl w/ violent convictions..we’re still throwing away the key on them” and the idea of “asesment tools” which we know have a disproportionate impact on ppl of color in history of policing

That is one big reason I'm sure the
@GLFOP endorsed it. It didn't change the nature of racial policing, it actually may enhance it1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

I do know that there was zero chance this moved forward w/o
@GLFOP on board, and I would like to think they were persuaded by the history in Texas, Georgia, etc. Remember, Jared Kushner - who has done most of the work - is doing this b/c his Dad was in federal prison2 replies 0 retweets 1 like
And you can expect this to be another nightmare bill. It's just infuriating race is always at play in determining changes. The Black and Brown communities will feel this with a sting later.

Obviously, I am on the other side on this one, but I understand opposition. I really don't think this will - in any way - be a nightmare...certainly not worse than the status quo for black and brown people. That said, I could be wrong, I do the best I can to study carefully
