My concern is the emphasis on “this is *not* for ppl w/ violent convictions..we’re still throwing away the key on them” and the idea of “asesment tools” which we know have a disproportionate impact on ppl of color in history of policing
That is one big reason I'm sure the @GLFOP endorsed it. It didn't change the nature of racial policing, it actually may enhance it
I do know that there was zero chance this moved forward w/o @GLFOP on board, and I would like to think they were persuaded by the history in Texas, Georgia, etc.
Remember, Jared Kushner - who has done most of the work - is doing this b/c his Dad was in federal prison
That's the sad part to this chaotic system. When the oppressive tool is used to decide what is needed and what is not. I sincerely hope they were not the deciding factor. I hope this was political maneuvers for votes. If they were, expect no other steps
