I wouldn’t ask for a departmental seminar, but something like an event keynote is little different. I’ll report back!

I'd say if your academic or other salary specifically covers you to do external talks (including travel/accommodation) then fee is less of an issue. If you're not supported at work or an independent academic or activist, you need a fee + travel + expenses (and possibly prep time)

Yeah, there’s a lot of inconsistency in how people treat this. There’s no % outreach for most appointments, though some folks treatvit as part of our job (I have), even if we’re not rewarded for it by our institutions.

I’m learning there are very gendered differences here.

Yes! That’s what prompted this. I’d love to see data!

I checked no, but me only accepting if most of my travel costs are covered is a kind of payment.

I voted Yes as a woman but it depends on the event and the impact. I will always require travel outside the state/overnight stays covered. If a friend invites me to speak at a small venue or a green NPO something, I wouldn't take a fee. Mostly, I will require a fee.

No, but I'm realizing I need to set one. The range of what I'm offered these days varies fourfold, and I realize that unless I set the price in advance, people will try to offer the minimum they can get away with.
