Is it possible to shade n cells in every row and column of a 2n x 2n grid so that the shaded cells create one contnected region for any n?

pretty confident it should be yes for large enough n but no examples yet

That's what I thought, but it always seems to "just miss" and I have no idea why.
I came up with this problem a year ago. Sigh.
