After researching, I still have no idea why the πŸ”› emoji exists. Some other weird looking emojis like γ€½ or 🎴 have more meaning (usually something Japanese) behind them, but as far as I can tell, πŸ”› is just "ON!" with a double facing arrow for absolutely no reason?

Mystery solved: πŸ”œ means an event is in the future and πŸ”š means it was in the past, so πŸ”› means it's happening now ("it's on!") The three emojis apparently were in the original set, and predate even the smiley emoji. Seems like no one knows what it means anymore. Interesting!
