6/ Obama inherited the worst financial crisis since the great depression and pulled America out of it. Trump was handed a healthy economy and has made things harder for working families while juicing corporate profits. Don't let his lies try to tell you otherwise.

The irony is not lost on me that one of Satan's most memorable lines in the bible is when he tempts Christ...by quoting scripture to him.

We chatted a lot off the record, but our final parting thought involved looking forward through the lens of impeachment. If the president commits other crimes or, if an investigation finds he's committed an impeachable offense in the past, articles can still b drafted, Green said

.: "Forever he will be known as a president who was impeached. What the Senate did, does not in any way negate the fact that he was impeached on HC&M" Green said he hopes the impeachment will help the president understand "There is a Sentinel on watch."

"and that is bring him before the bar of justice. We did it, it was the appropriate thing to do, I'm proud that the House did this, the House of Representatives did its job, brought the president to justice."

Continuing: "A president would then have absolutely nothing to constrain or contain his behavior. That's what we're here for. We are the sword of Damocles. We have that over the president, to let him know that if he misbehaves we can do what no other body in the world can do...

"Once we reached 95, it became obvious, I think, to a good many people, that there was a need to address this question in a different way; a holistic approach if you will. ... If we don't act when the president commits impeachable acts, there are no guard rails."

Don't forget, Green is a former constitutional lawyer. That knowledge was his foundation for bringing a vote on drafting articles of impeachment three separate times. The third time, he said, after his second pass failed 355-66, was when he found support. "95 was critical mass...

Johnson's impeachment was partially rooted in his bigotry, Green said, Article 10 of that impeachment specifically highlighting Johnson's behavior, rooted in racism. Pretty good evidence that one does not need a statutory crime to impeach a president; a calling card for Reps.

. and I also chatted about the history of impeachment, including that of Andrew Johnson. Trump is the equivalent to that president, he said. I wrote a piece on that history before we geared up for the House's proceedings:

"He then went on to obstruct the House in it's investigation. So, the president is a recidivist. And he continues with his recidivism: his effort to obstruct. I think that what we did then was appropriate, and if given the opportunity I would do it again."

On the president's firing of James Comey for his investigation into Russian election interference, (remember?): "That in and of itself was reason for the president to be brought before the bar of justice, which is the House of Representatives."

In terms of the president being 'unfit' to hold the office, one of the qualifying parameters of impeachment, Rep. Green said - a staunch defender of the president throughout his Senate trial - was one of the first to call the president unfit for office.

I just got back from talking with . about impeachment. Rep. Green was the first to bring the idea to the House and we talked about whether or not Republicans pointing to that as evidence of Democratic bias, injured the proceedings or what his response was.
