Interesting take: Lockdown depression is proving UBI is not what America needs at all "Cash payments can't hold a candle to a purpose-driven life"https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/covid-19-lockdown-proving-ubi-what-america-needs-all-jake-novak …

I've argued this already. 1. Star Trek is fiction. 2. Future utopias are fictions. 3. Humans will never leave the solar system... alive... 4. Work defines Us. We're defined by our work or creativity. That's as old as human nature. Tradesmen don't want a handout!

I am a third generation Union man. My purpose is to work, build hospitals, jails, malls, schools. No one in my family ever needed welfare. My Irish cousins in the Bronx who are cops, their dads, uncles, grandfathers were cops... They don't want a handout.

Status is not free. Only reason why star treks version of communism worked was because humanity was United In one goal.

Someone close to me wants Star Trek. It’s ironic he also gave me 1984 and Brave New World when I was in elementary school. Life goes full circle a lot.

I’m a huge Star Trek nerd and still find the “for the betterment of man” response a bit feeble. Sure some will work for free to advance us forward. Many people would become unmotivated entirely.

I used to talk to lefties about Star Trek but they can't even follow the Prime Directive. Star Trek doesn't just beam cultures found on other planets back to earth, does it?
-
No, the Federation probably hands out the coordinates to Earth like handouts to illegal xeno-crossers in California.

Remember the Troi/ Mark Twain conversation She tries to convince him that they've solved humanity's problems and in a very unTwain response he agrees that "might be worth giving up some things" "MakeMineFreedom1948" DrUtopia's pitch still used by leftistshttps://youtu.be/NxsNU7ZZAlU
