Seatbelt became law because of the Insurance lobby, to reduce damage claims in accidents. It was well-known at the time. Infringement on people’s rights have always been driven by powerful lobbies, with influence over the politicians in who they fund.

Seeing people legitimately angry about seat belt laws is devastating to see. Just one more thing to push me from the right.

The punishment for not wearing a seatbelt is a little excessive though. They shouldn’t be allowed to just tie you up with a seatbelt and throw you in the closest body of water to drown

Slipper slope is sometimes justified, as we witness today with mandatory lockdowns, automatic weapon bans, drug laws with some dealers/man. doing time in double digits before enhanced gun charges. Speaking of, there's another law that's unconstitutional. Disenfranchisement.
