Those laws were hotly debated for a long time, subjected to public hearings and voted on by elected officials. Big difference from social distancing and mask rules handed down by a few government bureaucrats.

FWIW I’m all for open hearings on “social distancing” and mask wearing then demanding a vote. We are irrevocably altering the economy and imposing soul-crushing rules on our kids that have never been subjected to a single vote.

Wearing a seatbelt shouldn’t be mandatory either If my car ends up skidding off-road and ends up in a lake or canal or if my car sets on fire, that seatbelt might be the thing that traps me in the vehicle How I choose to protect my life should be my choice

My friend was T-boned and not wearing a seatbelt in the old style VW. Passenger door popped open and she was thrown out. Cop said only thing that saved her was not wearing seatbelt. This was back in 1970.

Laws - not executive orders of Governors. Wearing a mask that is not N95 is futile. Don't think you'll catch a healthcare professional treating patients with a home made mask! This is social conditioning.

Safety theater like the TSA, and the little speech on airplanes. They want to give the sheep a false sense of security.

Seatbelts only barely strike at identity, and don't interfere with ongoing social interactions. If seatbelts made it significantly harder to drive your car, it'd be a better comparison. Masks directly and constantly interfere with all face-to-face encounters. That's not nothing.

And their contribution to public safety is hotly contested. At least seat belts have a proven record to save lives, though I'd still vote on the side of having the choice.

Yes, and I would argue those are also a violation of Liberty. Seems crazy that a government entity can force me to use a feature of a vehicle I own. Would be like them mandating I use my guest room closet. Absurd.
