Well said. As a US Navy vet, I truly respect his care for his sailors, and I'm sad for him. However, There's an long time saying in the navy: "Loose lips sink ships.".... Protecting his sailors and securely communicating pleas for help are not mutually exclusive.

The conclusions in that letter were to abandon ship or everyone dies. A CO should know that an all or nothing conclusion, especially as he put it in “peacetime”, is never the case. He jumped his chain of command and took a strategic asset OOC by himself.
