Wrong, wrong, wrong. They aren't to prevent you from getting it. They are effective in preventing you from SPREADING it. Not having enough is a different problem, but I am sick of this bad info. Masking is effective in stopping the spread

And can I say this is the DUMBEST argument. 1. Healthcare workers need masks to keep from getting sick and to not spread
#WuFlu. 2. Regular people: Don't buy up the masks. They don't work. Illogical argument. Logical argument: providers need them more than regular people.

Every American should have a box of 100 masks on their doorstep, yesterday. What would that do to the spread?

I bought a few back in January, haven’t thankfully had the need to use them yet. Once this is over I’ll save it for a real pandemic

Yeah, we didn't follow that advice. Thankfully we had a stash of industrial N95 masks because we own a family machine shop. We donate most to the local FD but we kept enough for our own.
