Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has released the following statement after the execution: “Tonight, justice has been served. Nathaniel Woods, one of two cop-killers in ‘the bloodiest day in Birmingham Police Department history,’ has met his just fate."

"On June 17 2004 Birmingham police officers Carlos Owen, Harley Chisholm III, and Charles Bennett were shot to death while executing a misdemeanor assault warrant for Woods at a suspected crack house. A fourth officer was also shot, but survived and testified against Woods"
