I agree with a lot of what you write. And maybe this is true for some. But you may be overthinking this one. I surely am not thinking ‘spend more to get my free flight’. I always think spend less.

Sorry Jack, no. At least for me and my wife. We pay almost everything with a credit card for convenience, full balance is paid every month. And I never thought about spending more to get the reward. We have no other debt.

using a credit card or not its about discipline. every excuse not to use one seems to be protecting ones self for being undisciplined. there is something to be said for that but argument can be made to the effect of not being wise and earning interest for the harsh master
