Anytime we use any kind of plastic and you’re not using cold, hard cash with Uncle Benjamin looking up at you, you have a tendency to spend more - Dave Ramsey

People buy more when they do that because it doesn’t activate the pain centers of the brain when you use plastic. You don’t feel spending emotionally like you do when you use cash

'Cashback' and 'points' rewards encourage overspending and splurging because they trigger the reward centers of the brain This is the same as saying you saved money because you purchased something on sale No, you spent money that you may not otherwise have spent

Well, except if I was going to spend it anyway because I had to (e.g. my power bill) and I can either get 1% back or not..... But yes, this is the same reason they use chips in a casino instead of dead Presidents.

For smart spenders, credit cards, when paid in full each cycle, offer deferred payment with money earning interest, cash back rewards, enhanced warranties, free car rental insurance, and easier disputing of "damaged" items. You just have to have some maturity and self-control.

To cite personal experience: If I can use a (cash back) credit card to purchase an item without incurring an additional fee, I will. I've used credit cards for over 40 years and I have never paid a penny in interest charges.

If I spend more than a particular amount I get cash from the bank to hand over so I know on an emotional level what I'm spending. Though once a nosy woman at Neimans got all excited when I pulled out cash so I told my sales clerk "I'm so glad my pimp paid me early this week!"

During 2019 credit card companies paid me ~2k to use their products. The issue is self-control and it is not restricted to spending, abusing the credit available is just another manifestation.

The Unites States population, in general, has no idea the difference between and economic need and an economic want.

Lol. Reminds me of conversation with the wife. She saved $30.00 shopping with coupons. I asked to see the $30.00. Blank stare.
