People buy more when they do that because it doesn’t activate the pain centers of the brain when you use plastic. You don’t feel spending emotionally like you do when you use cash

'Cashback' and 'points' rewards encourage overspending and splurging because they trigger the reward centers of the brain This is the same as saying you saved money because you purchased something on sale No, you spent money that you may not otherwise have spent

Can confirm. Using cash the last 5 years changed our world, our perspective our wants our priorities our dreams. You won't be liked though. Cash is almost seen as suspect. This makes rebels like us want to do it though.

I love all the people on this thread bragging about going cash only, when it basically demonstrates that they aren’t disciplined in their spending. It’s like the guy at the poker table who throws chips around wildly because he feels like they’re just units.

I think financial maturity is a process. Young adults and young marrieds should use the method that teaches discipline best. For us it was cash. We are now in our 60s and use the credit card for points and incentives. We are disciplined to pay it off monthly so never pay interest

Love Dave Ramsey. Should be required reading for all high school students before signing those FAFSA applications! Some of their parents too!

I have a major problem with Dave Ramsey though this is the same guy that points out using plastic, but to buy his kit,he takes payments such as plastic. That's an OXIMORON.
