Read a book instead. Then you would have your ideal cast, be the director, and skip all the virtue signaling that is inserted into nearly every production these days.

I don't watch everything with subtitles, but I wish subtitles were available more often. Let's be honest - a lot of actors (supposedly) speaking English badly mumble key bits of dialogue and directors just keep it.

Yes 100%. The dialogue audio is so bad and I hate missing out

True. It's also amazing how much background dialogue you read with it on that you never here just listening to the scene.

I find it helps because sometimes I cannot hear what the person is saying, particularly in movies. Dialogue is at low volume and action is at very high volumes. Subs just make it easier, I don't have to blast the sound to hear. Example: Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings.

I usually have my Roku audio set on "Night." That helps, but then I miss dynamic range. Oh well... on a TV with little speakers that I have on late anyway...

Too much of a distraction. I end up reading all the time and miss out on the "cinema" aspect of things. Subtitles are for when it's hard to understand what they're saying.

You have to do until you see both at the same time. Then it’s not distracting
