Of course this is theater. But, in isolation, if you are lead prosecutor on a famous federal case and your sentencing recommendation is publicly and "notoriously" countermanded after filing, you have to quit. It's humiliating, and there's a juicy payday waiting for you anyway

No. Either they are taking a stand for what they perceive is a slight, or will try and claim trump somehow interfered. Or they are in deep do-do, especially if reporting is correct that they gave a different briefing to DOJ which had a much lower recommendation.
