The family structure we’ve held up as the cultural ideal for the past half century has been a catastrophe for many, @nytdavidbrooks writes. It’s time to figure out better ways to live together. http://on.theatln.tc/I7yq54B

Redoing what it means to have family is just part of the equation of redefining what it means to be male or female and what speaking truth to one another means. Our norms .. they are trying to unhinge us from at every turn

Long ago I said to someone that feel like no one really believes what they are pushing. What their primary goal is would be for everyone to go insane trying to keep up with their politically correct stances. I stopped trying long ago. I believe what I believe.

I agree that the extended family is better than the nuclear family. It creates a family safety net for both children & the elderlypic.twitter.com/cewAfIG8zK

The nuclear family has been ripped apart over the past 50 years. #ozzieandharriet

Maybe Brooks has a point. “The shift from bigger and interconnected extended families to smaller and detached nuclear families ultimately led to a familial system that liberates the rich and ravages the working-class and the poor.”

My understanding is the extended/spatially close family offered stability, but was limiting, particularly to those members with extraordinary talents. My life's experience would say that part is pretty accurate.
