We had Block Parents. If you needed anything, you could go to any block parent for help. They had signs to put in their front window. Everyone knew everyone. When it snowed, we were sent out to shovel for our elderly neighbors. Community.

It's because people used to care about their neighbors and would stop at nothing to help them, now they won't stop if they're lying in the street bleeding zero feelings zero respect it makes me sick!

Grew up on a farm miles away from people. Rode horses. Baled hay. Shot guns. Read the Bible.

I absolutely loved going to church festivals!! The best part of Catholic high school was meeting the polish kids and the Italian kids and going to their festivals too. Let’s face it- the Irish aren’t known for their cuisine- and those old babushka wearing ladies can cook!!

It seems like parent now don’t let their kids roam around like when I was a kid. I would leave the house at 9am and not return until I heard my mom screaming from the porch while the street lights were turning on. Kinda sad

I grew up in a rural community in a subdivision but with plenty of space between people. We still knew everyone in the entire community. Today, I live in an apartment and I only know one neighbor's name.

As a child in Jerusalem I knew all of my neighbors. They might knock and ask for an egg; you might go over to ask for some salt. I could go to the makolet (grocery store) and reach into the tank to get a fish for Shabbat and the man would write down the price on our "ticket."

Oh sure! We had “The Cookie Lady” we could visit for a cookie, a nice old man who kept Hershey’s mini candy bars for us when we visited, we played kick ball in the street and red light green light in the yard, we had a block party every summer - the good old days!
