I was on recruiting duty when the Chatanooga incident happened. Navy response was to lock the door. A glass door with big glass windows on the front of the station. Carrying my pistol into the station would get me punished. More than if a private citizen carried theirs in.

Not a bad thing. Should be open by rank and qualification. E-5 and above is a good place to start I think. Legal, personal fire arms. And Establish a "watch" for this type of indecent, where heavy weapons can be deployed without going through the Armory.
