I was tweeting about DNA testing companies recently and someone DM’d that they just found out they had a 38-year old son through Ancestry, but they hadn’t ever even used a DNA service, their siblings had. Wild

My son wanted 2 take test-8 wks later I was contacted by a ‘close match’ looking for birth family. She’s a full blooded sister of my father in law given up for adoption because parents were unmarried teens. No one knew. She’s now met her 4 full blooded siblings. Aunt Catherine ❤️

I found a half brother conceived 5 years before my dad married my mom. I had no idea and both of my parents have passed so I have no idea if my dad even knew!

What a way for someone to build a worldwide database of DNA.....get people to freely give up their DNA to 'find your ancestors'. No thanks. I don't trust people/companies/governments to not use it against me at some point.

Testing is done in China. It's subsidized by the government so they can outbid competitors. The Chinese Communist Party has all the data.

Family friend found out the same way, that he has a 25 year old daughter because his mom did the DNA thing. The girl found him on FB and eventually reached out. It has turned his life upside down... these are the unintended consequences of this stuff. 👎

The biggest unintended consequence is whatever follows, once they've got a critical mass of DNA samples.

My thoughts exactly! Especially when big cheese at Google is also a big cheese at one of the DNA testing companies. Why in the heck would a Google exec (who tracks our search’s) also be interested in our DNA??? Big Tech is the only thing I don’t trust more than the government.

Happened to my friend. 31 year-old daughter found through family DNA. Process of elimination
