A defense counsel so heinous he not only got divorced, but got throat cancer and died shortly after OJ was acquitted. Criminal defense attorney. Dying of throat cancer. I'm not a supertitious man but it's hard to deny the karma of that one.

Let's also not forget that this happened shortly after the Rampart scandal, when police distrust was high. OJ's defense banked off that, big time. In a different time period, it would not have worked.
